Foundations GoalsKelly’s Dream is a grassroots, Somerville based, non-profit Foundation, registered with the State of New Jersey. We are an all-volunteer organization, established in April 2005. Kelly’s Dream is committed to raising the awareness of melanoma education and aiding in the funding to further the research for a cure for this fastest growing cancer currently in the USA and worldwide. Striking every age, gender, and socioeconomic group, melanoma is quickly becoming one of the most familiar cancers among the general population. Already melanoma has become the most common cancer among women aged twenty-five to twenty-nine. Among women aged thirty to thirty-four, it is second only to lung cancer (the leading cancer in both men and women).Malignant melanoma is one of the most aggressive types of human cancers. Its ability to invade and form secondary tumors in distant organs, in combination with high resistance to conventional anticancer drugs, makes melanoma extremely difficult to cure. There have been no significant advances in medical therapies (or survival) for patients with advanced melanoma in the past 30 years. But we are working to change that. |
